Which level of craftsmanship is right for you?
We do not make made-to-measure suits. We offer two levels of bespoke construction: semi-bespoke and bench-made bespoke. Both begin with a unique pattern drafted from scratch for your style details, fit requirements, posture and body shape.

Semi-Bespoke
Modelled on our bench-made approach, with your own pattern and full-canvas construction. Production-based making delivers a faster turnaround with substantially less handwork, reserved for necessary work and visible finishing.
Your suit is cut and made at our Toronto atelier by Ian MacMillan. Approximately 95% is sewn and finished by hand, including the internal construction. Only the long, straight seams are sewn by machine.

Between the outer cloth and lining, a canvas layer supports the chest and shapes the jacket. It gives the coat structure while allowing the cloth to move naturally.

Lapel width sets the proportion. The roll gives it shape. A hand-worked Milanese buttonhole adds a raised line of silk, a small detail with a distinct character.

Which parts of a semi-bespoke suit are finished by hand?
The internal construction is machine-finished and the canvas is shaped by machine. The outside of the suit is finished by hand, including hand-sewn buttonholes, buttons sewn on by hand and external pick stitching.
What's the difference between semi-bespoke and bench-made bespoke?

Specialist tailors work in a production environment for a faster turnaround, with substantially less handwork. The internals are machine-finished and the canvas is shaped by machine. Handwork is reserved for where it is needed and for visible finishing, including buttonholes, buttons sewn on by hand and external pick stitching. Bench-made bespoke is cut and made at our Toronto atelier by Ian MacMillan. Approximately 95% of the suit is sewn and finished by hand. Internal components are drafted, cut, shaped and attached by hand; only the long, straight seams are sewn by machine. Menswear uses full canvas; womenswear uses half canvas in both levels of construction. Both include a basted fitting.
How much does a bespoke suit cost in Toronto?
Semi-bespoke suits start at $1,800, and bench-made bespoke suits start at $5,795. Your choice of cloth determines the final price. At your consultation, we’ll explore options within your budget and confirm the cost before you commission.
How long does a custom suit take?
Your first semi-bespoke suit takes around 10 weeks. Subsequent commissions typically take 5 weeks once your pattern is established. Bench-made bespoke takes approximately 4–5 months. If you’re planning for a wedding or special occasion, share the date at your consultation so we can confirm what’s possible.
What's the difference between bespoke and made-to-measure?
Made-to-measure starts with an existing pattern adjusted to your measurements. We do not make made-to-measure suits. We offer two levels of bespoke construction: semi-bespoke and bench-made bespoke. Both begin with a unique pattern drafted from scratch for your style details, fit requirements, posture and body shape.
How many fittings will I need?
Semi-bespoke typically includes 2 fittings, while bench-made bespoke includes 4–5. Both begin with a basted fitting, where we assess the garment’s shape and balance before progressing to the finishing stages. Fittings take place at our Toronto atelier, with alterations completed in-house.
What if my suit needs adjusting, now or after pickup?
We alter your garment until you are completely satisfied with the fit. In the rare case that a remake is needed, we will remake it. All alterations are completed in-house. Alterations relating to weight loss or gain are covered for 12 months from the date of pickup. After that, our standard alteration price list applies. Changes to styling preferences, such as shortening a jacket or changing buttons, are charged separately.

Most of our clients begin with semi-bespoke. It brings together your individual pattern, full floating canvas construction and hand-finished details, whether you’re building a working wardrobe or marking an occasion. Choose bench-made bespoke if you value a suit made entirely in our atelier, with more extensive handwork and fittings guided by Ian MacMillan. You don’t need to decide before you visit.
